Mangaluru : The ‘All India Cooperative Week’ is observed annually across the country from November 14 to 20. This tradition honors the birthday of India’s first Prime Minister, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, who strongly believed in the principles and practice of cooperation.
Dr. M.N. Rajendra Kumar, who serves as the President of both the SCDCC Bank and the Karnataka State Cooperative Marketing Federation, announced the details of the upcoming state-level celebration. He informed the press that the state-level program for the Cooperative Week will be held on November 16 at the Karavali Utsav Grounds in Mangaluru.
This year marks the 72nd All India Cooperative Week, and it is being celebrated under the theme: “Cooperative Institutions as Vehicles for Achieving Aatmanirbhar Bharat (Self-Reliant India).” Various programs are being conducted across different districts at the state level.
The program specifically organized in Mangaluru will focus on the subject: “Strengthening Rural Development through Cooperative Institutions.”
The event will be inaugurated by the Speaker of the Legislative Assembly, U.T. Khader. Health and Family Welfare Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao will be present to bestow the prestigious ‘Sahakara Manikya Award’.
Minister for Women and Child Development, Laxmi Hebbalkar, will distribute awards to the best cooperative societies, while G.T. Devegowda, MLA and President of the Karnataka State Cooperative Federation, will honor the best Self-Help Groups.
Former Cooperation Minister K.N. Rajanna is scheduled to inaugurate the exhibition stalls, and Member of Parliament (MP) Brijesh Chowta will perform the Cooperative Week flag hoisting. The entire ceremony will be presided over by Dr. M.N. Rajendra Kumar.
A new award, the ‘Sahakara Manikya Award,’ has been decided upon, to be presented from the year 2024 onwards. Its purpose is to recognize and encourage well-performing cooperative societies within the undivided Dakshina Kannada district. Cooperative societies selected for their all-round progress will be honored with the award, along with a 5-gram Gold Medal, a cash prize of ₹10,000, and a suitable memento.
