Mangaluru : Sudheer Kumar Reddy, took charge as the Commissioner of Police, Mangaluru City, on Friday.
Mr. Reddy was a 2010 Indian Police Service officer, he served as Deputy Inspector General of Police, Intelligence, at the State police headquarters before his posting to Mangaluru.
Mr. Reddy served as the Superintendent of Police (SP) of Dakshina Kannada district for a brief period, from June 2017 to January 2018. During the period, he had dealt with the illegal sand mafia with an iron hand.
Sharath Madiwala, a Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh volunteer, was murdered in a communal retaliatory attack during his period, on July 4, 2017, at BC Road. The assailants were subsequently arrested in about two months.
Mr. Reddy, a native of Andhra Pradesh, had begun to learn Tulu, the language of the region, to assimilate with the region when he was the SP of Dakshina Kannada.
Holding a Bachelor of Technology and a Master of Arts (Public Administration) degrees, Mr. Reddy was on inter-cadre deputation to Andhra Pradesh for a few years from 2020.
Anupam Agrawal, who had been the Commissioner of Police since September 2023, was transferred to the post of Deputy Inspector General of Police (Economic Offences), Criminal Investigation Department, on Thursday.
