Mangaluru : In an tragic insident a 20-year-old woman lost her life in a tipper lorry accideent near the Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals Limited (MRPL) cargo gate on Wednesday afternoon.
The deceased has been identified as Shwetha (20), originally from Uttara Kannada and presently residing at Katipalla Kaikamba.
It is said, She was riding pillion on a bike driven by her brother, who sustained minor injuries.
According to sources, the siblings were heading towards Surathkal from Katipalla Kaikamba when a tipper lorry coming from behind ran over Shwetha after she fell from the bike. The lorry crushed her upper abdomen, killing her on the spot.
It is reported that the lorry driver abandoned the vehicle and fled immediately after the incident. Mangaluru North traffic police visited the spot, registered a case, and seized the tipper lorry.
