Kasaragod: Toll collection at the Kumbale Arikkady Toll Plaza on the Kasaragod–Mangaluru National Highway (NH) is scheduled to begin tomorrow, Wednesday, November 12, at 8:00 AM. This decision is being implemented despite ongoing citizens’ protests, agitations, and legal battles against the plaza. The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has already published a notification and issued advertisements regarding this commencement.
Revised Toll Fee Structure
As per the notification, the fee structure for a single journey will be as follows: Light Motor Vehicles (LMVs) including cars, jeeps, and vans will be charged ₹85. Vehicles including mini-buses will be charged ₹140. Heavy Vehicles (HVs) such as buses and trucks will have a fee of ₹290, and high-category commercial vehicles will be charged ₹320.
Monthly Pass for Local Residents
For non-commercial vehicles belonging to residents living within a 20 km radius of the toll plaza, a subsidized monthly fee of ₹340 has been fixed.
Legal Challenge Pending
The commencement of toll collection is moving forward even as the High Court verdict on the complaint filed by the Citizen Action Committee opposing the toll plaza is set to be pronounced tomorrow (Wednesday). The Highway Department is proceeding with the fee collection despite the imminent court ruling.
