Brahmavara : A tragic drowning incident claimed the life of a 38-year-old man on Thursday, March 19, at an abandoned stone quarry in Garike Matha, falling under the Vaddarse Gram Panchayat limits in Brahmavar taluk. The deceased has been identified as Arun, a native of Tamil Nadu, who was employed locally by an individual named Raja. The incident occurred in the afternoon when Arun reportedly entered the water-filled quarry for a swim, unaware of its treacherous depth.
As he ventured further into the quarry, which is estimated to be over 30 feet deep, he struggled to stay afloat and eventually drowned. Upon receiving the news, the well-known social worker and expert diver Eshwar Malpe, along with his dedicated rescue team, rushed to the location. After a brief but intense operation, the team managed to retrieve Arun’s body from the deep waters.
The Brahmavar police reached the spot shortly after the recovery to conduct a mahazar and complete the necessary legal formalities. A case has been registered, and the body was shifted for a post-mortem examination. Meanwhile, the incident has sparked significant anger among the local residents, who pointed out the lack of safety fencing or warning signs around such hazardous abandoned quarries. They have called upon the authorities to take immediate measures to secure these pits to prevent similar fatalities in the future.
