Two separate cases have been filed at the District Prison in Kodialbail, Mangaluru, concerning a remanding undertrial allegedly assaulting co-inmates and obstructing the duties of officials and staff. Additionally, another group of inmates has been charged with obstructing jail staff.
The first incident occurred on November 29. The undertrial inmate, identified as Muhammad Asif, is accused of shouting loudly in front of the office of Jail Superintendent Sharanabasappa and inciting all inmates in ‘A’ block to come out. Prior to this, Asif had reportedly assaulted three co-inmates who were working in the kitchen. A case has been registered against him for obstructing the official duties of the Superintendent and the staff.
The second, separate incident took place on December 2. In this case, the same Muhammad Asif, along with four other inmates—Moideen Faraz, Ibrahim Khaleel, Nisar Hussain, and Muhammad Hafeez—were booked for allegedly abusing and obstructing the duty of the staff members. The complaint states that the five inmates used abusive language against the duty staff, obstructed their work, and issued threats.
