Belthangady : An Innova car carrying officials from the Special Investigation Team (SIT), who are currently probing the controversial body burial case in Dharmasthala village, veered out of control and overturned at Charmadi Ghat on Tuesday.
The accident resulted in injuries to four individuals, including SIT Superintendent of Police (SP) C.A. Simon, Inspector Kusumadhar, Police Constable (PC) Manjunath, and the vehicle’s driver.
The team of officials had departed from the SIT office in Belthangady and was heading towards Chikmagalur for case-related work. They were reportedly en route to meet Chikmagalur District SP and SIT Investigating Officer Jithendra Kumar Dayama to deliberate on the ongoing progress of the investigation.
The mishap occurred when the driver lost control of the Innova at a sharp curve on the Charmadi Ghat road, causing the vehicle to flip upside down directly on the highway. Observing the severity of the crash, local residents and passing motorists rushed to the spot immediately to rescue the trapped officials from the overturned car.
The injured personnel were promptly shifted to a nearby hospital for medical attention and are currently reported to be out of danger. Local police personnel visited the accident site soon after the incident to conduct an inspection and successfully cleared the debris to ensure the smooth movement of traffic along the ghat section.
