Udupi : The Hiriyadka police have successfully apprehended two individuals accused of stealing a calf with the alleged intent of selling it to a slaughterhouse. The arrested suspects have been identified as Raghavendra (36), a resident of Mathrushree Nilaya in Padigara, Perdur village, and Sudheendra Shetty (36), residing in Neelashree, Perdur. The incident took place on February 17, causing concern among the local residents regarding cattle theft in the area.
According to police reports, the duo allegedly stole the calf from a field located directly in front of the Perdur temple. They were caught while attempting to transport the animal in an autorickshaw bearing the registration number KA 20 AA 9306. Following a tip-off, a dedicated police team intercepted the vehicle, rescued the calf, and seized the autorickshaw used for the crime.
The operation was conducted under the direction of Udupi Sub-division Deputy Superintendent of Police Belliyappa KU and guided by Brahmavar Circle Inspector Gopikrishna. The arresting team was led by PSI (Law and Order) Puneeth Kumar BE and PSI (Investigation) Vittal Malavadkar, supported by ASI Shailesh Kumar and staff member Ramesh. A formal case has been registered at the Hiriyadka police station.
The accused were produced before the local court shortly after their arrest. Upon hearing the initial details of the case, the court ordered 15 days of judicial custody for both suspects as the investigation continues. This swift action by the police has been noted by the community as a stern warning against illegal cattle trafficking and theft in the district.
