Beltangady : A sudden spell of rainfall brought much-needed respite to several villages along the Beltangady-Karkala border on the evening of Saturday, February 21. The region, which had been experiencing dry weather conditions over the past few weeks, witnessed moderate to heavy showers in various pockets. The change in weather provided a refreshing break from the rising temperatures, bringing smiles to the faces of local residents and the farming community.
The rain began around 3:00 PM, particularly affecting Nellikaru in Karkala taluk, as well as Naravi, Kadirudyavar, and Kashipatt within the Beltangady jurisdiction. These border areas recorded significant showers that helped cool the parched earth and replenish local water sources. The localized nature of the downpour ensured that while some areas received heavy rain, others nearby experienced a pleasant drizzle, collectively improving the groundwater outlook for the coming days.
Farmers in the region have expressed immense satisfaction, describing the rainfall as a timely boon for their agricultural activities. The moisture is expected to benefit standing crops and plantation crops that were beginning to show signs of heat stress. With the rain helping to dampen the dry soil, agricultural operations are expected to gain momentum in the border villages, marking a positive turn for the rural economy of both taluks.
