Udupi : In a major operation, the Udupi Town Police have arrested two interstate burglars belonging to Uttar Pradesh’s notorious Bedia gang in connection with a high-value house break-in. The arrested individuals have been identified as Mohammad Jafar (22) and his associate Qadir (32).
The incident came to light after A.S. Ramamurthy, a resident near Kunjugudde Road in Ambalpady, Udupi, locked his home and traveled to Mangaluru on July 1. Upon returning on the morning of July 9, he discovered that his house had been ransacked, with clothes pulled out from wardrobes, and cash along with valuables totaling ₹6 lakh and three wristwatches worth ₹10,000 stolen. A formal complaint was subsequently lodged at the Udupi Town Police Station.
Acting on precise intelligence, the Udupi Town Police initially apprehended the prime accused, Mohammad Jafar, near the Indrali Railway Station in Udupi on September 2. During interrogation, Jafar confessed to committing the burglary with his accomplice Qadir, prompting a police team to travel to Uttar Pradesh and recover ₹1,06,000 in cash. Continuing their probe, the police tracked down and arrested the second accused, Qadir, in Moodbidri on September 25, ultimately recovering total assets valued at ₹4,50,500 from the culprits.
