Mangaluru : Mangaluru North MLA Dr. Y. Bharath Shetty has strongly urged the Dakshina Kannada district administration to stringently execute the ongoing SIR (Voter List Revision) process as a primary mechanism to track and identify illegal Bangladeshi immigrants. Expressing deep concern over thousands of foreigners entering the country clandestinely, he pointed out the recent apprehension of 16 illegal immigrants in the Mukka and Kodikal areas under his constituency limits. While commending the police department for their prompt action, the legislator warned that the number of hidden undocumented workers could multiply exponentially if immediate measures are not initiated. To address this looming threat, he demanded the formation of a dedicated special task force.
The MLA cautioned that any leniency in the implementation of the SIR drive would directly jeopardize the state’s internal security. He revealed a deep-rooted conspiracy where certain labor contractors and rogue agents are actively providing rental accommodation and illegally procuring Aadhaar cards for these foreign nationals. Dr. Shetty urged the district administration to vest full authority in the police department to launch extensive checking drives across the region and completely dismantle this network. Furthermore, he demanded a comprehensive investigation to verify if any illegal Bangladeshi migrants managed to cast votes in previous elections using forged identity proofs.
Holding the district administration squarely accountable for any lapses in the ongoing census process, Dr. Shetty insisted that officers must mandatorily conduct door-to-door physical verifications. He proposed the creation of a centralized database tracking all rented properties across the district to explicitly distinguish legitimate Indian citizens from illegal infiltrators. The legislator also emphasized that local abettors aiding these foreigners with fake documentation must face stringent legal prosecution. Lastly, he implored the state Congress government to set aside political differences and actively collaborate with the Central Government’s national security campaign to secure the borders and eliminate the illegal immigration menace.
