Udupi : A Russian national found in a helpless condition in Udupi city has been handed over to the Goa Police following medical recovery and preliminary procedures. Social activist Nityananda Olakadu initially spotted the individual collapsed on the Santhekatte-Kalyanpur service road. Recognizing the urgency, he immediately rescued the foreigner, got him admitted to the Ajjarkad District Hospital, and notified the Udupi City Police Station.
Subsequent investigations revealed that the Russian citizen’s tourist visa had expired, rendering his travel documents invalid. Furthermore, authorities discovered an active criminal case pending against him in Goa. Terrified of the legal ramifications, the man briefly escaped from the hospital while undergoing treatment. However, city police promptly traced him wandering through the town, brought him back into custody, and ensured he received complete medical care.
Under the direction of District Superintendent of Police Hariram Shankar, once the individual’s health stabilized, he was placed under the care of the Hosabelaku Rehabilitation Centre in Karkala. During his stay, he was permitted to speak with his mother in Russia via telephone. Rehabilitation Centre coordinator Tanula Tarun provided necessary assistance and meals, while two police officers were deployed to ensure security.
Following these rehabilitation steps, the Russian national was produced before the District Court. As per the legal directions regarding his pending trial in Goa, he was formally handed over to the Goa Police for further legal proceedings.
