Mangaluru : During the 77th district-level Republic Day celebrations held at Nehru Maidan, Dakshina Kannada District In-charge Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao issued a stern warning against divisive elements. He emphasized that the state government would not tolerate any individual or organization attempting to mislead the local youth for personal gain or inciting them toward violent activities. The Minister asserted that the administration would not hesitate to take stringent legal action against those who threaten the peace of the region. He remarked that sustained peace and communal harmony are the essential pillars upon which the district’s progress and the improved quality of life for its citizens are built.
Addressing the gathering after unfurling the national flag, the Minister highlighted that true peace prevails when individuals follow the core values of their own religions while maintaining mutual respect for other faiths. He pointed out that the government has implemented several strategic measures to uphold law and order, which has laid a robust foundation for the district’s comprehensive development. By fostering a stable environment, the government aims to create more local employment opportunities, thereby reducing the need for the youth of Dakshina Kannada to migrate to other states or countries in search of livelihood.
The Minister also shared updates on significant infrastructure projects, specifically the modernization of the Mangaluru fishing harbour. With an investment of approximately 37 crore rupees, the project includes the construction of a 320-metre-long jetty, the reconstruction of auction halls, and the installation of modern drainage systems. This initiative is set to fulfill a decades-old demand of the local fishing community and will be dedicated to the public shortly. He noted that such advancements are only possible when the society remains united against forces that attempt to fragment it.
The ceremony also served as a platform to recognize excellence and humanitarian contributions. In a departure from the traditional practice of gifting computers, the government awarded 10 high-achieving SSLC students from government schools with cash prizes of 50,000 rupees each. Furthermore, KSRTC drivers with 15 years of accident-free service were honored with silver medals, and the family of the late Sindhu Shree was felicitated for her noble act of organ donation. The event, which featured an impressive parade commanded in Kannada by probationary IPS officer Ananya Srivastava and vibrant cultural performances by local school students, was attended by several high-ranking officials and dignitaries including MP Capt. Brijesh Chowta and Deputy Commissioner Darshan.
