Mangaluru: Seven cows died suspiciously in a span of 10 days at the home of Joseph Stani Prakash, a dairy farmer living near Kelarai Church in Neermarg.
Joseph Stani, who has been farming dairy for about 50 years, has more than 30 cattle and used to let them graze in the Neermarg-Kelarai direction every day. This is the first time that the cows, which had gone to graze, have died one by one after getting home. It is suspected that someone has poisoned the cows. These include milch cows with calves, young cows, large and medium-sized bulls.
One cow has died since June 12. On the 13th, the veterinarian came and collected blood samples and sent them for testing. Six cows died at home, while one cow died on the hill while it was left to graze. Another one is in a life-threatening condition.
Some people locally are still letting their cattle graze. But they said they have not had any problems with those cattle. They have filed a complaint with the Mangalore Rural Police Station regarding the
