Ullal: The former headmaster and the principal’s family members have put up a fence around the school premises with a history of 91 years, hindering the education of poor students in the government school. The school management has expressed anger over the fact that the education officers and the concerned department have not taken any action despite the school having difficulty in going to the toilet.
The Assistant Commissioner has said in his order that .46 acres of land in S. No. 343/2B and .62 acres in 343/2A in Kolnadu village will be reserved for the playground of the Mekhatte aided H.P.P. School Barebettu. It is also mentioned in the title deed. But in the meantime, suddenly, the children of the family who had established the school and generously donated the land to the school toilet that had been functioning for the past 91 years have put up a fence. Already, with the cooperation of donors for the past 91 years, the open-air theater, electricity facilities, and the construction of a kennel had been established as donations from donors including the Golden Jubilee Committee. But with the confidence of the then school director, all the development works were carried out so as not to interfere with the education of the children of the village. The number of students coming to school had decreased slightly during the Corona period. For this reason, the school administration had taken the decision to start government English medium education in the school. After this issue was raised, the family of the donor of the land had expressed opposition to the English medium school. They also started expressing opposition when the toilet that was on the government land near the school was demolished and a new building was constructed. They started continuously filing complaints against the school administration and the locals and sending lawyer’s notices. Meanwhile, the application filed by the school management and the village elders to the Assistant Commissioner requesting that the school site be reserved for school activities was accepted. The Assistant Commissioner issued an order conditionally allotting 0.62 and 0.46 acres of government land to the Education Officer, Bantwal. It was mentioned in the title deed. However, the family of the former coordinator, who opposed this, installed a fence overnight on the way to the only toilet for students, and also spread rumors in the village about this, and sent messages through social media not to send children to that school. The school management has accused the villagers and parents of joining hands to stage a violent protest if the education of the children is disrupted and justice is not served. The school was established in 1933 by the elder Krishna Bhatt in Nekette, Kolnadu village, Bantwal taluk. Established with only twelve students, this school offered education from grades 1 to 3. The school was instrumental in educating the children of rural areas such as Kallamajalu Serkala, Todla, Kulyaru, Devasya, Panjigadde, Barebettu, Mundattaje, Padaru, etc. In order to meet the educational needs of the people of the country in the changing times, in 1978, Namma Vidyalaya became a full-fledged upper primary school with classes 1 to 7. As the number of students in the school increased, a new building was constructed with the full cooperation of the education enthusiasts from the village and beyond. As the number of students increased, the number of teachers serving increased from three to six. But the number of students, which was 300, has decreased in the past few years. There is only one headmaster appointed by the government, while the remaining six teachers are paid with the help of locals and donors. The school currently has an environment where 53 students can be taught in one building. The owners of the land are obstructing the construction of a new building.
This is a school with a large number of students. But gradually, misinformation has prevented children from coming. Now, by fencing the land, it is as if the education of the students has been fenced off. The government order should be followed and continued. Anything other than that is unconstitutional.

Retired Headmaster
Everyone’s effort is to save the school for the education of the children. No one will appreciate it if they play in it. Retired headmasters and their families should support the education of the children, not deprive them of education.

We, along with the retired headmaster and coordinator, have developed the school, which has been run by the elders for 91 years, with the cooperation of donors from the village and beyond, as directed by the retired headmaster and coordinator. But it was only a few years ago that we came to know that the land was not in the name of the school. Until then, everyone was confident that the land where the school is located was in the name of the school. The whole case is that the villagers were put in trouble without informing them about that issue. Everyone’s support is needed for the just struggle of the villagers

Lawyer’s notices are being unfairly sent to the members of the School Development Committee every day. We are fighting fairly for the education of the children. If we learn, poor children cannot afford to send them to English medium schools. Therefore, this school should not be made an English medium school.
