Belthangady : The Belthangady court remaned 45-year-old Chinnaiah, the complainant in the Dharmasthala case for 14 days on Saturday. Later, the police took him to the prison in Shivamogga.
The Special Investigation Team (SIT), which is probing the case, produced Chinnaiah, the former sanitation worker, before the Additional Civil Judge and JMFC H. Vijayendra after his custody with the SIT ended on Saturday.
The SIT on Saturday questioned Vittal Gowda, uncle of Soujanya, who was raped and murdered, near Dharmasthala, in October 2012. It was in connection with the probe into the skeletal remains produced by Chinnaiah before the magistrate.
Gowda was taken to Banglagudde for ‘mazahar’ and brought back to the SIT office in Belthangady. The SIT has already searched the houses of activist Mahesh Shetty Timarody and his brother Mohan Shetty, where Chinnaiah stayed before he was arrested by the SIT.
The police have also questioned activist T. Jayanth and also searched his house in Bengaluru where Chinnaiah had stayed with skeletal remains for a few days before moving to New Delhi and then returning to Dharmasthala to file the complaint with the police.
The SIT searched two service apartments in Bengaluru where Chinnaiah stayed.
It has questioned YouTuber Abhishek, and a notice has been issued to another YouTuber Abdul Munaf of Kozhikode. The two were said to have recorded the exhumation of the skeletal remains by Chinnaiah and put it on social media.
