Mangaluru : Police Inspector Balakrishna, who was caught red-handed accepting a bribe to release money seized in a fraud case, has been remanded to 14 days of judicial custody by the court. Following his arrest, the accused inspector has also been placed under suspension from service.
According to reports, the case pertains to a fraud complaint registered at the Bajpe police station, where Inspector Balakrishna had recovered money from the victim. To return the seized sum, he allegedly demanded a bribe of ₹25,000. He had already collected an advance amount of ₹15,000 from the victim.
Acting on a complaint, Lokayukta police trapped Inspector Balakrishna while he was accepting an additional ₹5,000 bribe and seized the cash from his possession. When produced before the court on Tuesday, Balakrishna requested hospitalization citing health issues, but the court turned down his plea and sent him to judicial custody.
