Karkala : MLA V. Sunil Kumar on Sunday challenged the State government to ban RSS and later face the elections.
The former Minister, in a video statement, criticised Priyank Kharge, Minister Rural Development and Panchayatraj, IT and BT and Electronics, for writing to the Chief Minister Siddaramaiah to impose a ban on RSS activities in government institutions and public premises across the State.
Mr. Kumar said that it reflected arrogance of power.
He said that Mr. Kharge has failed to perform as the Minister. The roads in rural areas are in worst condition. Mr. Kharge could not get new roads built in rural areas and could not get funds to gram panchayats. The government could not grant housing sites to poor.
“Mr. Kharge is speaking against the RSS to cover up his failures. It is an immature statement and publicity stunt to remain in focus in the name of RSS,” the former Energy Minister said.
“Even when Priyank’s father Mallikarjuna Kharge was the Home Minister in Karnataka, RSS could not be banned. The RSS with a century of service and lakhs of volunteers will continue to work for next generation,” he said.
Udupi MLA Yashpal Suvarna speaking to reporters in Udupi said that Priyank Kharge instead of seeking to ban RSS should excel in his works as a Minister.
Former Udupi MLA K. Raghupathi Bhat said in a statement that RSS completed 100 years and its activities were appreciated across the country. Recalling marches in the Nehru era, Mr. Bhat argued that the RSS makes no Hindu–Christian–Muslim distinction.
