Mangaluru : SCS Hospital, Mangaluru, marked its 38th anniversary of distinguished selfless service with the inauguration of several cutting-edge medical services, ushering in a new era of cardiac care for the region. The new facilities were formally launched by Captain Brijesh Chowta, Member of Parliament for Dakshina Kannada. The key additions include Fujifilm Japan’s 128-Slice Cardiac CT Scan, an advanced Modern Radiology Department, and an NABL-Accredited Laboratory. MP Chowta also took the opportunity to release the hospital’s new website during the ceremony.
In his inaugural address, Captain Brijesh Chowta heartily congratulated SCS Hospital for being the first to introduce the root-cause detecting technology, calling it an excellent step toward providing effective treatment from the source of the ailment. He lauded Mangaluru as a ‘model city’ in the country, emphasizing that despite its modest size, the achievements of its private medical institutions and healthcare professionals are extraordinary. The MP also highlighted the efforts of the Modi government, noting the reduction of GST on 33 life-saving medicines to 0% and on several other drugs from 12% to 5%. Adding his commendations, Swami Jitakamananda Swamiji of Ramakrishna Ashrama praised the hospital’s dedicated staff and the excellent care provided to the public.
Vedavyas Kamath, MLA for Mangaluru South, acknowledged SCS Hospital’s long-standing contribution to social work and its continuous facility upgrades. He confidently stated that as Mangaluru is already a major medical hub with numerous medical colleges, the introduction of such high-end services will undoubtedly transform it into a major Medical Tourism Hub in the near future. While unable to attend, Shri Dinesh Gundu Rao, the Hon’ble Minister for Health and Family Welfare, sent a message praising the hospital’s good work and expressing hope that it would greatly benefit numerous patients.
The new Fujifilm 128-Slice Scenaria View Cardiac CT Scanner is a symbol of Japanese precision and will offer patients one of the fastest, highest-resolution, and most painless cardiac scanning facilities available, significantly boosting the hospital’s diagnostic capabilities. The event was presided over by Dr. Jeevaraj Sorake, Chairman and Managing Director of SCS Hospital. The hospital also took the time to honor Senior Neurologist Dr. I.G. Bhat and Senior Surgeon Dr. K. Bhaskar Shetty for their long-standing medical service. In an act of community support, scholarships were distributed to college students, and prizes were given to the hospital staff who had won various competitions.
Established in 1987, SCS Hospital has a rich history, including being the first private hospital in the district to accept medicolegal and trauma cases. It also pioneered mother-child care services and, in 2018, launched the SCS Institute for Liver and Gastrointestinal Disorders. The hospital’s commitment to excellence was recently recognized in 2025 when its Gastroenterology Department won the “Endosafe Excellence” award in an all-India audit. The addition of the 128-Slice Cardiac CT Scanner, alongside existing features like 4K Laparoscopy/Endoscopy and state-of-the-art PICU/NICU/MICU facilities, reaffirms SCS Hospital’s dedication to providing high-quality healthcare to all sections of society.
