Karkala: Former Minister of Kannada and Culture, V. Sunil Kumar, has strongly demanded the immediate dismissal of Purushottam Bilimale, Chairman of the Kannada Development Authority, following his controversial statement suggesting the existence of homosexuality within the art form of Yakshagana. Sunil Kumar asserted that the statement is an insult to the rich and revered Kannada art form.
Allegation: Insult to a Divine Art
Sunil Kumar emphasized that Yakshagana is a divine art and that thousands of professional and amateur artists in Dakshina Kannada and Uttara Kannada are dedicated to it. He accused Bilimale of attempting to make the entire art form appear repulsive through his reckless remarks, calling it an unacceptable act that has caused embarrassment to the whole art community.
Call for Accountability and Decorum
The former Minister pointed out that Bilimale had previously courted controversy by attempting to find the caste of martyred soldiers, and is now repeating a similar “aberration” concerning Yakshagana artists. Sunil Kumar criticized the Chairman for his lack of collective responsibility and failure to recognize the dignity of his post while making such comments.
Demand for Immediate Dismissal
Sunil Kumar slammed Bilimale’s behaviour as a display of his “usual urge to talk” without discretion. He concluded by demanding that the government immediately remove Bilimale from his responsibilities at the Kannada Development Authority for this irresponsible conduct.
