Mangaluru : A grave allegation of prolonged sexual harassment has surfaced against a church priest within the jurisdiction of the Mangaluru South Police Station, involving an underage boy. Taking swift action on the complaint, the local police have registered a First Information Report (FIR) under the stringent POCSO (Protection of Children from Sexual Offences) Act and initiated a comprehensive investigation into the matter.
The accused has been identified as Father Cyprian Pinto. According to the details documented in the FIR, the minor boy was a regular visitor to the church for prayers. Taking advantage of this, the clergyman allegedly lured the victim, calling him privately into the prayer room and his personal residential quarters, where he subjected the child to continuous sexual abuse.
The abuse came to light when the priest allegedly harassed the boy once again during the evening prayer session on August 14, 2026. Terrified by the incident, the minor shared his ordeal with his friends, which subsequently revealed that several other boys had also allegedly faced similar sexual exploitation by the accused.
Overwhelmed by fear and trauma, the victim finally disclosed the harrowing details to his family members. The parents immediately brought the grave matter to the attention of the Bishop. Acting upon the guidance of the Bishop, the parents approached the police and lodged an official complaint. The FIR notes that the formal filing of the complaint was slightly delayed due to this internal consultation process with church authorities.
In strict accordance with the guidelines and legal protocols of the POCSO Act, the identities of the victim and the complainants have been kept strictly confidential to protect their privacy. The Mangaluru South police are currently conducting further investigations to unearth all facets of the case.
