Mangaluru Police Arrest Notorious Criminal for Provocative Instagram Campaign Against Department

Mangaluru The Mangaluru City Police have successfully apprehended a 23-year-old youth for allegedly spreading highly provocative and defamatory messages against the police department through a social media platform. The accused, identified as Abhishek M, a resident of Katipalla, was arrested following a detailed investigation into posts shared on an Instagram page titled mr_a_titude. The controversy began when Abhishek posted a photo of a local establishment, Hotel Nisarga, claiming that the Bajpe Police were providing “royal hospitality” to murder suspects by serving them beef meals from the hotel every day. His posts further alleged that the very department meant to protect the public was instead conspiring with criminals and misusing its authority, leading to a breakdown of public trust.

Following these inflammatory remarks, a case was initially registered at the Bajpe Police Station on May 8 under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, including provisions related to spreading rumors and inciting public mischief. Given the digital nature of the crime, the investigation was subsequently transferred to the City CEN Crime Police Station. Using advanced technical surveillance and digital forensics, the specialized team tracked down the administrator of the page and confirmed Abhishek’s involvement. The police have emphasized that such baseless allegations are not only defamatory but are also intended to disrupt communal harmony and law and order in the region.

The investigation has further revealed that the accused is a habitual offender with a significant criminal history across multiple jurisdictions. Abhishek is reportedly involved in several serious cases including a murder charge from 2022, an attempt to murder case from 2021, and an assault case, all registered at the Surathkal Police Station. Additionally, he faces a robbery charge filed at the Kaup Police Station earlier in 2024. By documenting his history of violence and robbery, the police have highlighted that the accused used social media as a tool to destabilize the legal system. He has now been taken into custody and is being produced before the court for further legal proceedings.
