Mangaluru : Dakshina Kannada Deputy Commissioner Darshan H.V. has directed officials to take necessary measures to curb illegal activities and prevent harassment to motorists by transgenders on national highways during night hours. Presiding over the District Level Coordination and Monitoring Committee meeting for Transgenders held at the DC office, he instructed the police to initialy create awareness among transgenders not to assemble on highways, while warning of strict legal action if the issue persists.
Addressing the meeting, representatives of transgender organizations expressed concern over individuals arriving from neighboring states and indulging in unlawful practices, demanding stern action against them. Meanwhile, officials informed that a list of 15 homeless transgenders has been submitted to the Mangaluru City Corporation for housing sites, and steps are being taken through the Women Development Corporation to provide financial incentives for self-employment.
According to a recent survey, 96 transgender individuals have been registered in Dakshina Kannada district. To facilitate their rehabilitation, arrangements have been made for them to submit applications through the Seva Sindhu portal. Zilla Panchayat Chief Executive Officer Narwade Vinayak Karbari, Women and Child Development Department Deputy Director Sreedhar, representatives of transgender associations, and senior officials from various departments were present in the meeting.
