Mangaluru : The traditional practice of Daivaradhane has come under the spotlight following a heated exchange between Daiva Pathri Sushanth Bangera and researcher Rathi. Addressing the allegations made against him, Bangera asserted his deep-rooted connection to the tradition, stating that he has been serving as a Daiva Pathri since his father’s time. He categorically denied claims regarding his religious identity, maintaining that he possesses official documentation proving his lineage belongs to the “Pampa” community. Bangera challenged Rathi to produce any valid evidence to support her claim that he belongs to the Christian community, dismissing her statements as baseless.
Furthermore, Bangera addressed the serious allegations of practicing black magic leveled against him by the researcher. He clarified that while his father worshipped the “Mantra Devathe” and he continues that spiritual legacy, he has never engaged in any form of “Maata Mantra” or sorcery. Defending his integrity and the sanctity of his service, he dared Rathi to confront him openly with documented proof rather than making public accusations. He emphasized that his rituals are strictly within the framework of ancestral worship and do not cross into the realm of harmful practices.
The conflict escalated after researcher Rathi held a press conference, where she characterized Bangera’s involvement in Daiva Narthana as a “grave insult to the Daivaradhane tradition.” She alleged that Bangera is a Christian and argued that his participation in these sacred rituals undermines the cultural and religious purity of the heritage. This clash has sparked a significant debate within the community, highlighting the sensitivities surrounding identity, ancestral lineage, and the preservation of coastal Karnataka’s folk traditions.
