Mangaluru : The teachings and principles of Sri Adi Shankaracharya are eternal and hold immense significance for the entire world. Shankaracharya was a great saint who united people across the barriers of caste, creed, and religion. Highlighting this, MLC Ivan D’Souza stated that remembering and following his path is essential for the harmony of modern society. He was speaking after inaugurating the Sri Shankaracharya Jayanti celebrations held at the Shankara Shree Hall of Shree Bharati Group of Institutions in Nanthoor. The event was jointly organized by the Dakshina Kannada District Administration, Zilla Panchayat, Department of Kannada and Culture, and the Mangaluru Havyaka Mandala.
Participating as a chief guest, Shalet Lavina Pinto, Chairperson of the Karnataka Eco-Tourism Development Board, noted that government-led celebrations in educational institutions are the right way to ensure that Shankaracharya’s achievements and ideals reach the younger generation. Similarly, Mamata D.S. Gatti, Chairperson of the Karnataka Cashew Development Corporation, observed that hosting the event at a venue where Vedic studies are conducted in a Gurukula model provided students with valuable insights into the profound philosophy of the great seer.
The program was presided over by Ganesh Mohana Kashimath, Executive President of Shree Bharati Group of Institutions. Renowned litterateur Ananthasubrahmanya Sharma delivered a keynote lecture on the life and contributions of the philosopher. Several dignitaries, including Umesh Bhat Konemmane, General Secretary of Mangaluru Havyaka Mandala, and Ven. Murthy Amai Shivaprasad Bhat, Head Guru of Shankara Shree Vedapathashala, were present. Rajesh G., Assistant Director of the Department of Kannada and Culture, welcomed the gathering, while Principal Sandeep Acharya delivered the vote of thanks, and retired headmaster Bhaskara Hosamane coordinated the proceedings.
