Mangaluru : In a joint operation conducted by the Railway Protection Force (RPF) and the Crime Investigation Bureau (CIB) at Mangaluru Central Railway Station, a notorious thief was arrested with a significant haul of stolen gold ornaments. The accused has been identified as 25-year-old Asif P.H., a resident of Hosdurg in Kasargod district. During the ‘Operation Rail Prahari’ drive, security personnel noticed the individual moving suspiciously and subjected him to a thorough check, which led to the recovery of 93.5 grams of gold jewelry valued at approximately ₹13,06,662.
During the interrogation, the accused confessed that the gold ornaments were stolen from a house in Pavaratti, Thrissur. A case regarding this house-breaking and theft, which occurred on May 6 after the house’s lock was broken, had already been registered at the Pavaratti Police Station. The recovered items, which included four bangles, three necklaces, rings, a chain, a bracelet, and studs, were confirmed to be the stolen property from that specific case. Following the recovery, the accused and the seized ornaments were handed over to the Pavaratti police for further legal action.
Further investigation into Asif’s background revealed that he is a notorious habitual offender with an extensive criminal record. More than 12 cases of theft and robbery are registered against him across various police stations, spanning from Ernakulam to Kasargod. He was a wanted individual in several jurisdictions, including Payyannur, Hosdurg, Palakkad, and Nileshwar, with multiple non-bailable warrants pending against him. The alertness of the Mangaluru Railway Police has successfully put an end to the criminal activities of this interstate thief.
