Mangaluru : The Congress party’s newly launched ‘Sanghatan Srujan Abhiyan’ in Dakshina Kannada isn’t just a hunt for the next District Congress Committee (DCC) chief—it is a full-scale diagnostic and revamping mission aimed at breathing new life into its coastal stronghold. Announcing the two-week initiative from the district party headquarters at Mallikatte, AICC Observer and Kerala legislator K. Jayanth underscored that sustained public connection and active democratic engagement, rather than mere electioneering, define a party’s true longevity.

The ambitious outreach plan involves deep-dive consultations across all 17 blocks in the district, gathering direct feedback from booth-level cadres, civil society representatives, veterans, and local leaders. In a significant shift toward local empowerment, the newly appointed district president will hold direct influence in the candidate screening process for future elections. While the high command remains open to diverse backgrounds, selection criteria will strictly prioritize organizational acumen, discipline, and inclusive leadership over sheer seniority or factional clout.

Setting a clear objective to overturn the party’s recent setback—where it managed only two out of eight seats despite a massive statewide victory—the AICC team plans to stay grounded in the district through August 12. Beyond appointing the DCC chief, the team is building a comprehensive talent pipeline for upcoming local body elections. Rejecting group pressure tactics, Jayanth reiterated that final recommendations will rely purely on objective grassroots surveys alongside wisdom from stalwarts like Janardhana Poojary, Veerappa Moily, and U.T. Khader.
