Mangaluru : A major road accident was successfully averted near Yenepoya Hospital on Tuesday after a passenger bus climbed onto a road divider when its driver unexpectedly lost control due to a sudden drop in blood pressure. The driver, identified as Janardhana, became critically ill while navigating the ‘Gopalakrishna’ route bus, which was heading towards Mudipu from Mangaluru.
Overwhelmed by the abrupt medical emergency and unable to steer normally, Janardhana managed to guide the moving vehicle onto the divider to stop it. While the unexpected maneuver triggered immense panic among the passengers on board, a catastrophic disaster was avoided as the bus ground to a halt without causing injuries to any of the commuters.
Sensing the gravity of the driver’s deteriorating health, the bus conductor alongside the passengers responded swiftly by summoning an ambulance. Janardhana was immediately rushed to the nearby Yenepoya Hospital, where he was admitted for emergency medical treatment and is currently reported to be in serious condition.
Initial assessments of the incident indicate that the entire mishap was caused by the driver’s sudden and unexpected health crisis rather than any technical or mechanical failure of the bus. Official updates regarding his medical recovery and stability are still awaited.
