Mangaluru : The birth anniversary of the legendary sculptor Amarashilpi Jakanachari was celebrated with great fervor on Thursday at the Tulu Bhavan in Urvastore. The event was jointly organized by the Dakshina Kannada District Administration, Zilla Panchayat, Department of Kannada and Culture, and the Sri Kalikamba Vinayaka Temple.
Inauguration and Tributes: The program was inaugurated by K. Umesh Acharya Pandeshwar, the Administrator of Sri Kalikamba Vinayaka Temple, Mangaluru. In his address, he highlighted that the intricate stone carvings created by Jakanachari nearly 800 years ago remain a global marvel. He emphasized that Jakanachari’s artistic mastery serves as the foundation for the modern world of sculpture and continues to inspire artisans across generations.
Enduring Legacy: Speaking on the occasion, Sundara Acharya Beluvai, former Trustee of the temple, lauded Jakanachari’s contribution to Karnataka’s heritage. He noted that the master sculptor’s work is visible in numerous world-famous temples across the state, standing as a testament to his unparalleled skill and devotion to the craft.
Dignitaries Present: The event was attended by several prominent figures, including Lokesh Acharya Chilimbi, Harish Boluru, Shama D. Acharya, P. Ravindra Mangaladevi, and Sujir Vinod. Rajesh, the Assistant Director of the Department of Kannada and Culture, welcomed the gathering and compered the program.
