Karkala : The 135th birth anniversary of the architect of the Indian Constitution, Bharat Ratna Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, was celebrated at the BJP office in Karkala today. The event commenced with Karkala Constituency President Naveen Nayak offering a floral tribute to the portrait of Babasaheb Ambedkar, honoring his monumental contribution to the nation.
Addressing the gathering, Naveen Nayak highlighted that Dr. Ambedkar’s determination to pursue higher education abroad despite facing extreme poverty and social inequality remains a guiding light for today’s youth. He emphasized that Babasaheb’s lifelong struggle against the social evil of untouchability is unforgettable. However, Nayak remarked that Ambedkar’s personality is often limited only to his role in drafting the Constitution, ignoring the political hardships he faced. He alleged that the Congress party historically obstructed and insulted Dr. Ambedkar during his lifetime, a fact that should not be forgotten.
Nayak further criticized the Congress party, claiming it conspired to prevent Dr. Ambedkar from entering Parliament by fielding strong candidates against him twice to ensure his defeat. He also brought up the serious allegation that the then-Congress government refused to provide space in Delhi for Ambedkar’s funeral following his demise. He urged the public to remember these historical facts while honoring the great leader.
The ceremony was attended by various party leaders and office-bearers, including party spokesperson and advocate Ravindra Moily, Mandal Vice President Ananth Krishna Shenoy, Town President Niranjan Jain, and former Municipal President Suma Keshav. Also present were municipal members, SC Morcha President Srinivas Karla, ST Morcha President Sanjeeva Maala, and members of various other wings of the party.
