Bajpe : All 19 councillors of the Bajpe Town Panchayat staged a joint, cutting across party lines, protest against the Mangaluru International Airport authorities, citing severe local issues caused by airport infrastructure. Gathering near the airport premises, the elected representatives shouted slogans against the airport management and officials, expressing strong outrage over their continued negligence. The protesters pointed out that silt accumulation in major storm-water drains (Rajakaluve) and collapsed retaining walls have led to widespread flooding and related hardships during the monsoon, severely impacting the residents of Maravoor and Kenjar regions.
The councillors stated that despite submitting multiple memorandums to both the airport authorities and the district administration, no concrete action or response has been provided so far. Warning of intensified agitation in the coming days, the representatives declared that they would mobilize local citizens and various civic organizations to stage a larger-scale demonstration if their grievances regarding drainage, flooding, and infrastructural damage are not addressed immediately.
