Bantwal : In a significant breakthrough, the Bantwal police on Tuesday successfully arrested a notorious habitual offender who had been actively evading the law and failing to appear before the court in connection with more than 20 criminal cases across Dakshina Kannada.
The arrested individual has been identified as Farooq alias Umar Farooq (32), a resident of Sajipa Mooda village in Bantwal taluk. He was apprehended at Madva, following credible intelligence regarding his whereabouts.
History of Evasion
Police sources confirmed that Farooq had been consistently absconding, leading to an active warrant being issued against him. His long list of offenses primarily consists of theft and housebreaking cases. The cases against him are spread across numerous police jurisdictions, underscoring the serious nature of his criminal activities, including Uppinangady, Kadaba, Vittal, Bantwal Town, Bantwal Rural, Konaje, Barke, and Bajpe.
Criminal History and Legal Action

Furthermore, in Kadaba, Crime Nos. 43/2020 through 46/2020 are registered under House Trespass (IPC 457) and Theft (IPC 380). Following his successful apprehension, the police produced Farooq, who is facing over 20 criminal cases involving primarily theft and housebreaking, before the court. ದ ಕೋರ್ಟ್ subsequently remanded him to judicial custody, and further investigation is currently underway to ascertain the full extent of his criminal network and resolve all pending cases registered across the multiple police jurisdictions.
