Brahmavar : Woman and her 18-month-old daughter found dead

Udupi: A 35-year-old woman and her 18-month-old daughter were found dead in Aroor village under Brahmavar police station limits on Monday.

The deceased have been identified as Sushmitha and her daughter Shreshta.

Udupi SP Hariram Shankar said the bodies were discovered around 1 pm, with preliminary investigations indicating that the woman ended her life after killing her daughter. A suicide note was recovered from the spot in which she reportedly claimed responsibility for the act.

The SP said her husband and his family were convicted in a 2009 attempt-to-murder case, with the high court upholding the conviction recently. It is suspected that the development may have driven her to take the extreme step. “We are probing all possible angles to ascertain the cause,” the SP added. Brahmavar police have taken up an investigation into the case.
