Puttur : A tragic incident occurred on Thursday near Kathara in Bellipady village of Puttur taluk, where a college student drowned in the Kumaradhara river while swimming. The deceased youth has been identified as Kiran, a native of Gadag district. He was staying in Puttur and pursuing his higher education in Pharmacy at a local educational institution in the town.
The mishap took place when a group of four young students had gone together to the river bank to enjoy a swim. During this time, Kiran accidentally got caught in the strong water currents and began to sink into the deep river. Despite efforts, he could not be saved instantly. Later, the locals and rescue personnel managed to fish out the lifeless body from the water, which was subsequently shifted to the Puttur Government Hospital. The local police officials visited the spot to conduct a thorough inspection and have initiated further legal formalities.
