Puttur : Niranjan Rai Mathanthabettu, a highly respected Kambala organizer and popular commentator, passed away on Wednesday, July 8, following a sudden heart attack in Puttur. His unexpected demise has sent shockwaves through the coastal region’s socio-cultural and sports circles.
The tragic incident occurred when Mr. Rai, who was serving as a member of the Puttur Land Tribunal, had arrived at the Puttur Assistant Commissioner’s Court. He suddenly collapsed on the premises while attending to his official duties. Although he was immediately rushed to the Puttur Government Hospital by officials and onlookers, doctors unfortunately declared him dead upon arrival.
Beyond his role in the Land Tribunal, Niranjan Rai was deeply rooted in various social, religious, and cultural organizations. He had served as the President of the Management Committee of the Kodimbady Sri Mahishamardini Temple and held the position of Vice President of the Puttur Koti Chennaya Kambala Committee. Furthermore, he had contributed significantly to the promotion of regional culture during his earlier tenure as a member of the Tulu Sahitya Academy.
