Mangaluru : The Central Arecanut & Cocoa Marketing & Processing Cooperative Limited (CAMPCO Ltd.) has expressed grave concern over the influx of sub-standard imported arecanut into the domestic market. Reports indicate that imported produce of inferior quality is being locally blended with domestically grown arecanut and distributed through local trade networks. CAMPCO cautioned that this practice threatens to compromise the quality, market value, and stellar reputation of Indian arecanut, while potentially driving market prices down to unfavorable levels.
Highlighting the serious threat posed to the livelihoods of lakhs of domestic farmers who rely on sustainable practices, CAMPCO emphasized that this trend undermines the hard work of local growers. The cooperative appealed to all arecanut farmers to exercise extreme caution when selling their yield, advising them to transact exclusively through reputed and reliable agencies. Farmers were strongly urged to avoid dealing with traders who engage in adulteration practices for unethical commercial gains.
Reiterating its firm commitment to protecting the interests of the farming community, CAMPCO stressed that safeguarding the integrity of Indian arecanut is a collective responsibility of farmers, traders, and stakeholders alike. The cooperative pledged to work closely with relevant authorities to curb unfair trade practices and ensure a fair, remunerative market for domestic growers.
