CCTVs to be installed to monitor littering in the city: DCM DK Shivakumar

Bengaluru : Warning litterers of consequences, Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar today said CCTV camera are being installed in the city to monitor garbage dumping in public places.

Speaking to reporters near Bhuvaneshwari statue at Vidhana Soudha, he said, “We have installed many CCTVs already. The litterers are being identified and the garbage they dumped on the streets is being dumped back to their doorstep as a lesson. We are levying fines also on litterers.”

Garbage a big issue in Mumbai too
“I was in Mumbai on Friday. Garbage heaps lie in every corner. People are misusing their freedom, they should stop throwing garbage everywhere. People must cooperate with us for Swachcha Bengaluru,” he said.

“We have information that the contractors who manage main arterial roads are being given the job of garbage disposal. We are deliberating a similar model in Bengaluru too. I appeal to people to segregate the garbage and deliver it only to the vehicle which collects garbage,” he added.

Asked about allegations that garbage collection process is not right, he said, “It is not correct to say that. Garbage is being collected every day. There are helpline numbers to call in case of discrepancies. We have also made provision for citizens to identify and report garbage dumping. The media has been reporting potholes, there will always be potholes in the city. We are making our best efforts.”

New asphalting technology
“We have learnt that many cities including Hyderabad are using new asphalting technologies to lay roads which last 10 years. We are discussing similar technologies for Bengaluru too. The contractors have asked for larger contracts in view of machine costs and we are reviewing this as well.”
