Bengaluru : In a major boost to healthcare infrastructure, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah announced that state-of-the-art, technology-driven ambulance services will now be accessible across all districts of Karnataka. Speaking after inaugurating the Health and Family Welfare Department’s pioneering “108 Arogya Kavacha Centralized Command and Control Center,” the Chief Minister emphasized that the primary goal is to ensure this life-saving emergency facility reaches the common public seamlessly and with maximum efficiency.
Karnataka has made history by becoming the very first state in the entire country to design and deploy a centralized command and control network dedicated to emergency medical responses. Recognizing the critical importance of providing swift medical intervention during emergencies, the Chief Minister noted that this highly advanced infrastructure will serve as a backbone for real-time tracking and dispatch. While the 108 ambulance service has been operational in the state for nearly 18 years, a specialized administrative system was institutionalized following an allocation in the 2025-26 budget, ensuring that premium government healthcare services actively win back public trust.
Highlighting the profound impact of timely medical aid, the Chief Minister stated that roughly 80% of patients have survived critical conditions when they received specialized care within the vital ‘Golden Hour’. Swift responses are paramount during life-and-death crises such as severe road mishaps, complex maternity complications, and sudden cardiac arrests. To cater to the massive urban density, Bengaluru city alone operates between 65 and 70 dedicated emergency vehicles. Transitioning the operational oversight from private entities back to the state government has fundamentally increased governmental accountability, ensuring strict adherence to quality parameters.
Reiterating the administration’s broader vision for the medical sector, the Chief Minister observed that a large number of citizens approach the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund seeking financial aid for private hospital treatments. He urged the public to increasingly utilize state-run hospitals instead of private institutions, pointing out that treatments for chronic ailments like cancer are excessively expensive in private sectors, whereas government facilities offer top-tier care completely free or at nominal rates. The state government remains firmly committed to upgrading public healthcare systems and expanding infrastructure to ensure affordable, quality medical access for the economically weaker sections.
