Mangaluru : Dakshina Kannada deputy commissioner Mullai Muhilan has instructed tahsildars and incident commanders to evacuate families from at-risk homes to safer locations. Flood-prone areas are under strict surveillance, with rescue equipment on standby. Control rooms in all taluks and the city corporation are operating 24/7 to ensure swift disaster response, and any lapses will face strict action.
In Mangaluru, rainwater entered homes in Attavar, affecting several families. Twelve families were relocated to a relief centre at Kudmul Ranga Rao Town Hall, where essentials were provided. City corporation commissioner Ravichandra Naik inspected the arrangements. Mr. Muhilan has instructed official to shift such families facing risks to relief centres.
DC Mullai Muhilan and Mangaluru city corporation commissioner Ravichandra Naik visited several flood-hit localities in the city and inspected the waterlogging situation. They also visited Pumpwell and discussed with officials the issues related to drainage of rainwater.
Rainwater also entered nearby shops, houses and hospitals. Padil and Bajal Railway underpasses were also flooded. Water had entered houses on Kodialguthu Road and Attavar. Fire brigade personnel rescued locals using boats.
Vehicles got stuck in artificial flood waters at some places including Pumpwell, Kodialguttu, Kottara Chowki, and Padil. Some of them got stuck and the riders were in distress. There were even scenes of people swimming in the stagnant water.
The entire Jappu-Kudupadi railway underpass is flooded, and the inner road from Mugeru Highway to Kudupadi is flooded, making vehicular traffic difficult.
Sullia town, Jalsooru, Mandekolu, Bellare, Aranthodu, Sampaje, Guthigar, Panja, Kollamogru, Subrahmanya, Balpa, Kaikamba, and Bilinele received day-long rain. No damage was reported despite the downpour.
