Mangaluru : An exclusive occupational health awareness camp focusing on work-related injuries and preventive healthcare was successfully conducted for the law enforcement personnel at the Mangalore East Police Station in Kadri Hills. Organized under the leadership of Dr. Ganapathi P. Bhat, Chairman of the Mangala Group of Institutions, and Vice-Chairperson Dr. Anita G. Bhat, the initiative aimed at enhancing the physical well-being of the frontline force. The technical sessions were led by expert physiotherapists Dr. Aarol D’Souza and Dr. Varsha Marar from Mangala Hospital and Mangala Kidney Foundation, under the expert guidance of Dr. Bharath K. H., Principal of Mangala College of Physiotherapy.
The smooth execution of the health camp was supported by Police Sub-Inspectors Prathibha K. H. and Manohar Prasad, alongside the proactive staff of the Mangalore East Police Station. The police personnel extended a warm welcome to the medical team, ensuring full cooperation to make the educational drive highly effective and engaging. Around 25 police officers from the Law and Order Wing actively participated in the session, which was tailored to address the unique physical demands of their daily duties.
During the camp, the resource persons shed light on widespread musculoskeletal disorders and occupational health hazards that frequently plague police personnel due to prolonged standing, extended desk hours, continuous driving, and sudden strenuous field activities. To counter these risks, the specialists introduced a practical “Duty-Break Exercise Protocol” designed to be easily performed during working shifts to alleviate physical stress and maintain agility.
Furthermore, the session included live demonstrations on correct sitting postures and essential ergonomic habits tailored for station house duties and patrolling. The participating officers enthusiastically took part in the practical drills, raised relevant queries, and cleared their doubts regarding chronic pain management. The core objective of this collaborative initiative was to instill preventive healthcare practices among the police force, ultimately contributing to better long-term fitness, reduced injury rates, and enhanced operational efficiency.
