Mangaluru : Dakshina Kannada Deputy Commissioner M. P. Mullai Muhilan declared a holiday for all schools and anganwadis on June 16, in Mangaluru, Ullala, Mudabire and Bantwal Taluk in view of the red alert for rains in the area.
The southwest monsoon has become active again after a brief halt of nearly two weeks, with rains lashing out in several parts of Karnataka in continiously. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a predicting “widespread” rainfall in nearly all districts until June 17.
In coastal Karnataka districts, the IMD has forecast “heavy to very heavy rain with sustained wind at 30 to 40 kilometre per hour (kmph), which likely to occur at a few places and extremely heavy rain likely to occur at one or two places over Dakshina Kannada, Uttara Kannada and Udupi districts.”
