Data Entry Operator Arrested in Karkala for Attempting Bank Fraud via Forged Checks of Pervaje Sri Mahalingeshwara Temple

Karkala : In a swift punitive action, the Karkala Town Police arrested a former data entry operator on charges of forging signatures on checks linked to the official bank account of the historical Pervaje Sri Mahalingeshwara Temple in Karkala taluk. The law enforcement officials intercepted and apprehended the accused, who has been identified as 29-year-old Akshaya Devadiga, a resident of Hanchikatte, Ennehole in Marne village. The fraudulent attempt to siphon off institutional funds came to light during a recent internal verification process, leading to a formal police complaint.

According to official sources, the accused had been employed as a data entry operator from December 1, 2022, to May 7, 2026, at the Pervaje Sri Mahalingeshwara Temple, a prominent religious institution governed by the Hindu Religious Institutions and Charitable Endowments Department of the Government of Karnataka. The systematic financial irregularities, alongside significant dereliction of duty, were uncovered during a routine department audit. When upper management confronted the operator and demanded an official explanation regarding the discrepancies, the accused abruptly tendered his resignation and stopped reporting to work without providing any clarification.
