District-Level Dasara Sports Meet Inaugurated at Mangala Stadium in Mangaluru

Mangaluru : The Dakshina Kannada District-Level Dasara Sports Meet was officially inaugurated on Wednesday at the Mangala Stadium in Mangaluru.

Inaugurating the event, Shallet Lavina Pinto, Director of the Karnataka Eco-Tourism Development Board, highlighted that the Dasara Sports Meet serves as an excellent platform for athletes to demonstrate their abilities. She praised the initiative for providing rural talent with opportunities to compete up to the state level.

Hoisting the sports flag, Bharat Mundodi, Chairman of the District Guarantee Scheme Implementation Authority, shared that the State Government is setting up ‘Bharat Jodo Youth Clubs’ to encourage youth and promote their sports and cultural skills, with an annual assistance of ₹10 lakh planned for each club. Furthermore, Mangaluru Urban Development Authority (MUDA) Chairman Santosh Kumar Shetty mentioned that ₹20 crore was sanctioned for the upgrading of Mangala Stadium during the recent Cabinet meeting held in Mangaluru, which will significantly improve sports facilities.

The inaugural function witnessed the presence of TM Shahid Tekkil, Chairman of the State Minimum Wages Advisory Board, Ullas K.T., Deputy Director of Nehru Yuva Kendra, along with office bearers from various sports associations. Pradeep D’Souza, Assistant Director of the Department of Youth Empowerment and Sports, welcomed the gathering, physical teacher Mamachan delivered the vote of thanks, and Mohan Shirlal anchored the event. A total of 20 sports competitions were held as part of the district-level meet, and the winners will represent the district at the Mysuru division-level sports events.
