Mangaluru :In a massive push for a sustainable and healthier tomorrow, Mera Yuva Bharat (MY Bharat) Dakshina Kannada, operating under the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India, teamed up with several prominent local organizations on June 7, 2026, to host a grand bicycle rally named “Sundays on Cycle.” Organized in celebration of World Bicycle Day 2026 under the inspiring theme “Cycling for a Greener Future,” the mega event aimed to inspire the younger generation to embrace fitness-oriented lifestyles, prioritize personal health, and foster youth empowerment. This collaborative community initiative was successfully executed alongside the Department of Youth Empowerment and Sports (Dakshina Kannada), NSS Mangaluru University, Freezing Sun, Mangalore Cycling Club, Surathkal Beach Runners, and the We R Cycling Club.
The energetic rally was officially flagged off at 7:00 AM from the iconic Mangala Stadium in Mangaluru. Sri Pradeep D’Souza, the Assistant Director of the Department of Youth Empowerment and Sports, Dakshina Kannada, inaugurated the program and addressed the gathering by emphasizing how cycling plays a critical, dual role in maintaining personal health and safeguarding the environment. Following the inauguration, Shri Ullas K. T. K., Deputy Director of MY Bharat Dakshina Kannada, delivered the presidential address, where he praised the high energy of the participants and commended the seamless collaboration of all the involved organizations. He highlighted that the core objective of cycling is to ultimately build a healthier nation, and he strongly urged local youth to consistently step forward and participate in such vital fitness initiatives.
The high-profile event witnessed the supportive presence of several prominent dignitaries, community leaders, and special guests who gathered to champion the cause. Among the eminent personalities in attendance were Shri Jagdeesh K. representing MY Bharat, Shri Sheshappa Amin who serves as the Programme Coordinator for NSS Mangaluru University, and Shri Chittaranjan Bolar, President of the Athmasakthi Multipurpose Cooperative Society. They were joined by Shri Paranjali and Shri Maria representing Freezing Sun, renowned Mangaluru film actor Shri Dinesh Attavar, Mangalore Cycling Club President Shri Anil Shet, Shri Harnish representing We R Cycling Club, and national-level cyclist Shri Hardik Rai.
Demonstrating immense community spirit, the rally drew a highly diverse crowd from all corners of Mangaluru, spanning all age groups from young children to senior citizens. Hundreds of cycling enthusiasts and daily commuters eagerly joined the route to collectively advocate for environmental conservation and a sustainable future. Beginning at Mangala Stadium, the massive convoy of cyclists traversed through the city’s major landmarks, including Car Street, Clock Tower, PVS Circle, Lalbagh, and Lady Hill, before successfully making its way back to the starting point. Throughout the entire route, the riders actively engaged with onlookers and citizens to spread widespread awareness about the national “Fit India” movement.
The successful event wrapped up with a formal concluding ceremony held back at the Mangala Stadium, providing a meaningful platform where participants openly shared their personal thoughts on health, daily fitness, and green living. To recognize and honor their incredible enthusiasm, dedication, and support for a healthier lifestyle, all the participating cyclists were formally awarded certificates and medals by the invited dignitaries during the closing presentation.
