Bengaluru : In a deeply saddening development, Chennamma (85), the wife of former Prime Minister and JDS supremo H.D. Deve Gowda, passed away on Saturday evening at Manipal Hospital in Bengaluru. She breathed her last following severe respiratory complications and a subsequent cardiac arrest. According to an official statement released by the hospital administration, she had been admitted to the healthcare facility four days ago after complaining of breathing difficulties and was undergoing intensive treatment by a team of specialist doctors, but unfortunately failed to respond to the medical interventions.
The mortal remains of Chennamma were brought to H.D. Deve Gowda’s official residence in Padmanabhanagar, Bengaluru, late Saturday night. The family has arranged for the body to be kept at the residence on Sunday morning to allow political leaders, well-wishers, and the general public to pay their final respects. Following the public viewing, the body will be taken to Haradanahalli, the ancestral village of the family located in Holenarasipura taluk of Hassan district, where the final rites are scheduled to take place on Sunday afternoon.
Expressing his profound grief over the demise, her son and Union Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy shared a touching tribute on his social media account. He stated that his revered mother Chennamma had attained heavenly abode and mentioned that the family had high hopes she would fully recover from her illness and return home safely. He added that his mother was a pious soul who was always immersed in the devotion of Lord Shiva, and he believes that the Almighty has now called her to His divine abode, praying for her soul to attain eternal peace.
