Former ISRO Scientist Dr. P. G. Diwakar Inaugurates International Moon Day at Pilikula Regional Science Centre

Mangaluru : India’s landmark achievements through the Chandrayaan missions have set an unprecedented milestone globally, symbolizing the nation’s immense technological and scientific advancement. Inspiring young minds toward space exploration, science, and innovation, former ISRO scientist Dr. P. G. Diwakar highlighted that a clear goal, a scientific mindset, and relentless determination are essential for the country’s future space endeavours. Speaking after inaugurating the International Moon Day celebrations held at the Pilikula Regional Science Centre on Monday, he urged students to cultivate critical thinking and perseverance, emphasizing that youth-driven innovation will form the bedrock of India’s future achievements in space research.

Adding to the occasion, Mangaluru South Block Education Officer H. R. Ishwar addressed the gathering, advising students to utilize their academic years productively with discipline and focus to realize their ambitious career dreams. Dr. Sriniketan, former Dean at NITK and Chairman of the Pilikula Development Authority Sub-committee, extended his best wishes for the event, hoping that the scientific thoughts of the young generation would continue to orbit around innovation much like the successful trajectories of India’s lunar missions.

Presiding over the function, Dr. Ashok, Director of the Pilikula Regional Science Centre, urged students to constructively leverage emerging technologies, including Artificial Intelligence (AI) and digital tools, to enhance their skills. He remarked that embracing science, technology, and entrepreneurship is crucial for building a developed and self-reliant nation. Following a special lecture on ISRO’s growth trajectory and lunar discoveries, an engaging quiz competition on the theme “Moon and Space” was conducted for the students by Vandana.

To nurture scientific curiosity among the youth, interactive demonstrations and scientific model viewings were organized at the centre’s Innovation Hub, alongside a special 3D planetarium show titled ‘The Moon’. Over 200 students and teachers from selected high schools and pre-university colleges across Dakshina Kannada district participated in the event. Curator Jagannath welcomed the gathering, while Chanchalakshi hosted the event, and Vignesh Bhat delivered the vote of thanks.
