Udupi : Udupi witnessed a spectacular and traditional “Pura Pravesha” (Civic Entry) on January 9 for Shri Vedavardhana Tirtha Swamiji of Shiroor Mutt, who is set to ascend the “Sarvajna Peetha” for the first time on January 18. The ceremony began at the Shri Mahishamardini Temple in Kadiyali, where the Swamiji offered special prayers before entering the city in a beautifully decorated chariot.
The vibrant procession featured a variety of cultural tableaux, folk dance troupes, Bhajan groups, band sets, Chende, doll shows, and classical musical instruments, drawing massive crowds along the route. The procession moved from Sharada Kalyana Mantapa through Route 169(A), Shiribeedu Junction, Service Bus Stand, Triveni Junction, and Kanakadasa Road.
Following the rituals, the Swamiji visited the ancient Anantheshwara and Chandramouleshwara temples and sought the blessings of Lord Krishna through the historic “Kanakana Kindi.” The event was graced by several dignitaries, including Paryaya Welcome Committee President Yashpal Suvarna, MP Kota Srinivas Poojary, MLA Kiran Kumar Kodgi, Udupi DC Swaroopa T.K., MAHE Pro-Chancellor Dr. H.S. Ballal, and former BJP State President Nalin Kumar Kateel, among others.
