Heavy Rain Alert: Holiday Declared for Schools, PU, ITI, and Diploma Colleges in Dakshina Kannada on August 1

Mangaluru : In response to persistent heavy rainfall across Dakshina Kannada district and adverse weather forecasts issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD) and the Karnataka State Natural Disaster Monitoring Centre (KSNDMC), the District Disaster Management Authority has initiated cautionary measures. Prioritizing student safety, the Deputy Commissioner and District Magistrate declared a holiday on August 1, 2026 (Saturday), for all Anganwadis, government, aided, and private primary and high schools, Pre-University colleges (up to Class 12), as well as ITI and Diploma institutions—including all residential schools and colleges—throughout the district. Strict legal action under the Disaster Management Act, 2005, will be initiated against any institutions violating this directive.

To ensure public and student safety amidst the downpours, the district administration has issued a series of emergency guidelines. Parents have been strictly advised to prevent children from visiting waterlogged low-lying areas, lakes, rivers, and sea beaches. Additionally, owing to heightened sea erosion and powerful wave action, tourists and the general public are prohibited from visiting riverbanks and coastal stretches. Fishermen have also been explicitly warned against venturing into the sea during this period.

District and taluk-level officials have been directed to remain at their designated headquarters and carry out disaster management duties without fail. Officials must respond promptly to public grievances and maintain continuous coordination with the Deputy Commissioner’s control room. Concerned department heads have been instructed to keep care centers (Kalaji Kendras) ready in every taluk.
