Belthangady: Two youths were swept away by the river near Hittilapela Kudujalu in Savanalu village and survived in a cinematic way on Sunday.
Satish, son of Kariya Malekudiya, a resident of Pela in the Hittilapela area, which flows in the Kudujalu, which connects the Hittilapela area of Kudrudmukh National Park from Manjadabettu in Savanalu village, and his co-rider Sanjeeva Poojary, a resident of Sulyodi, were swept away by the river while crossing the river on their two-wheeler while going to work. Fortunately, the two-wheeler got stuck between the stones of the river and the two youths survived in a cinematic way with the help of some rope.
This area is within the boundaries of Kudrudmukh National Park, and this river flows dangerously during the rainy season. The law of the Wildlife and Forest Department prevents the construction of a bridge over this river. For this reason, the construction of the bridge is impossible. About 9 families live in this area, and more than 60 people live here. This area has not had basic infrastructure such as electricity and road connectivity as per the constitution for one and a half centuries. This is the only road to this area, and this family is in a situation where they have to cross this river without paying for their livelihood during the rainy season. Even though the government has held a meeting from time to time regarding the tribals, development has been a mere blip.
The Forest Department should give its consent to the construction of a temporary footbridge until the bridge is constructed. It is the public’s allegation that a case has been filed in the past during the construction of a temporary footbridge. The Forest Department should either construct a bridge or allow the construction of a footbridge, otherwise the people are demanding that they answer the question of how the people will live.
No matter which government comes, the development work of the residents of Kudremukh National Park is nil. The development gap remains a gap. The lives of the people should be saved by constructing a bridge here and the road, bridge and electricity should be provided to this area
