Mangaluru : In a heartbreaking incident, Janata Dal (Secular) leader Shashiprabha (47) lost her life in a severe road accident on the Mangaluru-Bengaluru National Highway near Chaudenahalli in Channarayapatna taluk, Hassan district. A resident of Korantabettu in Karnad K.S. Rao Nagar, Mulki, Shashiprabha was the sister of the late Shashikanth Shetty, former president of the Mulki Town Panchayat. Active across multiple social, religious, and service organizations, she also operated the ‘Yashaswi’ dhaba near Bellur Cross. Three others traveling with her—Dinesh (34) from Karkala, Sujan (20) from Mandya, and driver Akhil (20)—sustained injuries and are currently undergoing treatment at a local hospital.
The fatal crash occurred while Shashiprabha was traveling toward Mulki. Spotting a dead wild boar lying on the highway near Chaudenahalli, driver Akhil slowed down and steered the car to the side. However, a speeding Ford car approaching from behind ran over the carcass, lost control, and crashed violently into Shashiprabha’s vehicle. The impact caused her car to flip over multiple times, inflicting critical injuries on Shashiprabha, who was seated in the rear. Tragically, she succumbed to her injuries while being rushed to the hospital. According to family sources, the driver of the Ford car fled the scene without stopping. She is survived by her son and daughter.
The last rites were performed at the Kerekadu crematorium in Mulki. Several political figures and community members, including JDS Dakshina Kannada District President Jake Madhava Gowda, along with numerous party leaders and supporters, gathered to pay their final respects to the departed leader.
